What is anxiety?

It’s a really sneaky thing anxiety, so sneaky in fact that many people don’t even know they are in its grips.

Although I am not a fan of labelling or assuming we have collective emotions/ experiences, this is an important topic to raise as there are several different ways anxiety can show up in people.

A certain amount of anxiety is a normal part of the human emotion spectrum, just like feelings of sadness or being overjoyed are, its knowing when your anxiety is affecting you negatively, and is ongoing, that is important.

So how can anxiety show up?
🌿Perfectionism/ over-achiever/ fear of not being enough
🌿Issues sleeping
🌿Some digestive problems (that can’t be explained medically)
🌿A physical “tic” – nail biting, mouthing your fingers, chewing your lip, tapping your foot, chewing hair etc
🌿Worry
🌿Drinking every day to relax
🌿People pleasing
🌿Speaking without thinking/ speaking over people
🌿Avoidance of difficult subjects/ emotions/ situations
🌿Replaying or flash-backs to uncomfortable incidents (may have happened years ago)
🌿Some phobias – spiders, heights, moths etc
🌿Excessive comparing of yourself to others/ co-dependency
