Are your wounds your story?

The thing is ~ no matter your wound, your trauma, your challenges ~ this is not who you are but rather are experiences that happened to you. We all have wounds, some beyond ghastly, some less so, but all equally valid.

You are not your wounds… you are who you choose to be DESPITE your experiences.

Healing and self-growth is about learning to listen for the voice in your head that tells your story over and over, imprisoning you in your mind and preventing you from growing into the human you want to be.

Next time you find yourself thinking about the injustices of your past, about those who have hurt you, take a moment to identify the thought, then notice the emotion it brings up without being “swept away by it” and gently guide you mind away from the thought by either thinking a happy thought, or repeating an affirmation or taking some deep breaths in and out while focusing on the flow of your breath.

*Warning: your mind will not like you interrupting the replay of your “story” but gently tell it that it is no longer in charge, you are!
